Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray that God that we would have a greater understanding of what it truly means to know God.
Questions for Reflection:
Our text tells us that Paul’s greatest desire was to “know” Jesus. Read Matthew 7:21-23. What is the destiny of those God was speaking to? What were their works? Why did Jesus reject them? What does that teach us about redemption and a relationship with Jesus?
Sometimes, due to our circumstances, we are tempted to believe that God does not know us or care about us. Think about someone you love. How concerned are you for them if they suffer a minor scratch? Read Matthew 10:30. What is the extent of God’s concern for His creation? What does this teach us about His desire to know us?
Great men of God in scripture had a deep desire to know God? According to our text, what priority did knowing God take in Paul’s life in comparison to other pursuits? Despite the imminent danger posed by the Egyptians, what does Exodus 33:18 tell was his greatest desire?
Read the heading of Psalm 63. Under what circumstances did David write this scripture? Read the first verse. What do people normally long for in a desert environment? What did David long for? What priority should knowing Christ take in our lives? What priority does it take in your life?
Philippians 1:9-11 says that we know God through His love, holiness and His righteousness. Read 1John 4:11. What marks those who know God through His love? According to 1 Peter 1:13-16, what are the qualities of those who have a greater understanding of His holiness? In the text, what marks those who have a greater knowledge of His righteousness?
