Prayer Point for the Week – May God give us the strength and courage to be faithful in the face of all opposition.
Questions for Reflection:
1 John 4 speaks about “the spirit of antichrist.” This scripture tells us that this spirit is presently in the world. In what way? In what ways are we seeing the effect of a non-biblical worldview in our society? Is this affecting the church and if so, how?
1 Timothy 1:3&4 cautions believers about false teachers and teaching. He also warns against “myths?” What are they and why are they so dangerous? Why is it easy to fall into exaggeration and falsehood?
1 Timothy 1:4 also cautions against meaningless arguments. What are some of the things believers get into heated arguments over? Why is this harmful? Reflect upon a time you got into a heated exchange with another believer over a small issue. Who were the winners and losers, if any? What did you learn from this experience that will help you avoid a divisive argument in the future?
1 Timothy 4:1&2 tells us that evil spirits are involved in false religions. According to those verses, who is in danger of falling into these spiritual snares? Although demonic activity is involved, who bears the responsibility when a believer “abandons the faith?”
A common practice in non-believers that God is whatever any individual believes He is, regardless of the truth. Read 1 Timothy 4:3. What does this teach us about the human nature, or flesh, that believers still struggle with after accepting Christ as Savior?
Paul cautions us in 2 Timothy against fear and greed. How has fear affected your faith? What is the root cause of greed and how does it manifest itself in the believer’s life? How can we fight these temptations?
