Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray that we would have a greater understanding of God’s unique purpose for our lives and that we would have the faith to act upon it.
Questions for Reflection:
Psalm 139:14 tells us that we are all “fearfully and wonderfully made” which relates to each individual being awesome and unique. How are we unique on a physiological level? How are we unique on a spiritual level? What does this say about the care that went into our own births? What does it say about each individual’s value in the eyes of God?
Read Jeremiah 1:5. When did God ordain Jeremiah to be a prophet? What does this teach us about the calling of God upon our lives? At what point in his life did Jeremiah discover his calling? What was he doing to learn of this calling?
Although God’s word was sure, it was up to Jeremiah to obey God and fulfill His calling upon his life. Read Luke 9:57-60. What kept people from fulfilling God’s calling on their lives. Although they had different excuses, what was the one common element that disqualified each one from Christian service?
Fear is very powerful in that it paralyzes believers. Read Jeremiah 1:6. What is his first objection/fear? Read Jeremiah 1:9. Why was experience not a big factor in Jeremiah becoming a prophet? Read 2 Timothy 2:15. What does this teach us about our responsibilities in our callings?
Jeremiah was also concerned about his age? Why would this have made him fearful of prophetic ministry? Read Jeremiah 1:9. What was God’s remedy to his youthfulness? How is this a remedy for those who would say “I am too old?”
