Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray that, as a nation we would repent of our sins and turn back to the Lord.
Questions for Reflection:
Psalm 22:27&28 teach us that nations are accountable to the Lord. What does God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12 tell us about God’s heart and will for the nations? How did God interact with Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus? What does this say about God’s calling and concern for the nations?
Romans 6:23 tells us that there are deadly consequences to sin. Write down some of the national sins of the United States. Now read Matthew 25:31-46. What are the things that the Lord will hold the nations accountable? How well do we as a nation fulfill these things?
When we think of God’s judgment, we are quick to think of war and natural disaster. Read Matthew 24:6-8. What does this scripture tell us about such things? Since the “wages of sin is death”, are their things in our society that are either dead or dying? What are they?
Our text teaches us that the first step in national restoration is to humble oneself. One person in the Bible who displayed such humility was Daniel. What was Daniel’s disposition in Daniel 9:18? What does it show about his understanding of God, himself and his nation? Read the rest of the chapter. Did Daniel identify with or distance himself from the sins of his country? Does your heart mirror his in your prayer life?
In addition to confession, 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us that prayer and “seeking God’s face” are also necessary for spiritual renewal. How does one seek the face of God? How does the Church? How does a nation seek God? Do you practice this in your daily spiritual life?
