Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray that God would give us the wisdom to exercise both our privileges and responsibilities as citizens of His kingdom
Questions for Reflection:
- When the Heavenly Father adopts us into His family we are also granted citizenship into His kingdom. How do we know this? Does this add or subtract from our relationship with the Lord? In what ways?
- Citizens of any nation are afforded certain rights and privileges that are not granted unto foreigners. This was demonstrated by the life and ministry of Paul who was a citizen of the Roman Empire? How did his citizenship affect his life and ministry? What insight does his life give us concerning our rights and privileges as citizens of God’s kingdom?
- Citizens must take on responsibility for their country in order for their society to flourish. What are the consequences when few people engage in societal life? How are citizens of God’s kingdom called to engage both personally and corporately?
- As part of God’s kingdom, is it possible to have “dual citizenship?” Why or why not? Was does Colossians 1:13 teach us about the importance of severing ties with our former kingdom?
- The citizens of the Kingdom are also called to be its ambassadors. What is the role of an ambassador and how does that relate to our labor for Christ? What insight does Matthew 5:14 give us concerning the relationship between our church life and our community witness?
