Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray that God would give us a greater understanding of what it means to be His sons and daughters.
Questions for Reflection:
- The word “Abba” used in Romans 8 is the same word Jesus used in Mark 14 by Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane as He was praying to the heavenly Father. What does that tell us about the nature of our relationship with God through faith? How does this impact our prayer lives as described in Hebrews 4:16?
- As we study the story of the Prodigal Son, we see that the ring he received symbolized authority. As children, what authority of the Father do we exercise? How is this authority exercised? How will this authority change as we enter into eternity?
- The robe given to the son in Luke 15 symbolizes honor. What scriptures, if any, teach us about the honor bestowed on God’s children? Whose glory is it? For what purpose does the glory bestowed upon us serve?
- With “sonship” comes the understanding of inheritance. What does being a “joint-heir” with Christ teach us about our inheritance? What does the Old Testament rights of the “first-born” teach us about our relationship with Jesus as “joint-heirs?”
- The Prodigal Son story illustrates the dynamics of a broken and healed relationship with a father. How does this story affect our attitude towards our relationship with the Father? What cautions does this story give us? What assurances can we take from it?
