Sunday October 22nd – Prayer Point & Reflection Questions

Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray that God that we would have a greater understanding of what it truly means to know God.

Questions for Reflection:

Our text tells us that Paul’s greatest desire was to “know” Jesus. Read Matthew 7:21-23. What is the destiny of those God was speaking to? What were their works? Why did Jesus reject them? What does that teach us about redemption and a relationship with Jesus?

Sometimes, due to our circumstances, we are tempted to believe that God does not know us or care about us. Think about someone you love. How concerned are you for them if they suffer a minor scratch? Read Matthew 10:30. What is the extent of God’s concern for His creation? What does this teach us about His desire to know us?

Great men of God in scripture had a deep desire to know God? According to our text, what priority did knowing God take in Paul’s life in comparison to other pursuits? Despite the imminent danger posed by the Egyptians, what does Exodus 33:18 tell was his greatest desire?

Read the heading of Psalm 63. Under what circumstances did David write this scripture? Read the first verse. What do people normally long for in a desert environment? What did David long for? What priority should knowing Christ take in our lives? What priority does it take in your life?

Philippians 1:9-11 says that we know God through His love, holiness and His righteousness. Read 1John 4:11. What marks those who know God through His love? According to 1 Peter 1:13-16, what are the qualities of those who have a greater understanding of His holiness? In the text, what marks those who have a greater knowledge of His righteousness?

October 1st – Prayer Point and Reflection Questions

Prayer Point for the WeekLet us pray that God would move mightily during the Power of One outreach this Friday!

Questions for Reflection:

Read Hebrews 12:14. What is gained by walking in holiness? Why is that so important? What was the response of people who “saw God” in scripture? How do some in the body of Christ go about encouraging people to maintain their faith in Jesus? Why do many of those things fail?

1 Peter 1:16 remind followers of God of their responsibility to be holy. Read 2 Timothy 2:20&21. How does this scripture illustrate the calling of purity? What does it say about the responsibility of service. Are holy people considered common or more than common? How much more? How does that influence your your attitude towards holiness?

Our text states that the battlefield of the believer is the mind. In addition to our lusts, what 2 other things in 2 Corinthians 10 plague our minds? Have you ever struggled with human arguments that went against your faith and practice in Christ? What was so appealing about them? What can be done to refute them?

Some people paint Christ as an impersonal God who seldom interacts with His followers. Read 2 Corinthians 6:6-18. What does this teach us about the nature of the presence of God in human lives? What, if anything, does this scripture tell us He is saying? How is our relationship characterized in verse 18 if we listen to His call?

1 Corinthians 9 tells us that believers are to live a disciplined life. How is the believer called to handle his/her thought life? Does your thought life ever wander into areas it should not? What is your response to “wandering” if any? What should it be?
