Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray that the issues dividing our society would not bring division into the church.

 Questions for Reflection:

In Matthew 5:9, Jesus calls us to be peacemakers. How does one fulfill that calling? How does division with other brothers and sisters affect our ability to be peacemakers in the world?

In 2 Corinthians 2, the Apostle Paul tells us that we should be aware of Satan’s schemes. How do we learn about his schemes? Which spiritual gifts enable us to discover demonic activity?  How so?

Living together peacefully strongly affects our ability to be peacemakers in the world. Read Psalm 133. What important spiritual dynamic is affected by our unity or lack thereof? What are the consequences of losing this dynamic?

Is our society divided in any way? What evidence is there of division, if any? Do any of the world’s symptoms of division ever appear in the church?  What does that say about the health and maturity of the church? How can this be remedied?

What are the issues dividing us as Americans? Do these issues cause bitterness and hatred? Is so, to what degree? How subject are believers to falling into bitter, divisive actions? Have you or other believers fell into this attitude? How do you know when one has crossed the line from disagreement to division?

Philippians 2 tells us that Jesus became a Humble Servant in order to fulfill the will of the Father. As followers of Christ, how can we adopt this servant attitude? What motive, described in 1 Corinthians 13, encourages us to adopt humility as a lifestyle?
