Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our lives and church.

Questions for Reflection:

Was Jesus anointed? How do we know? What does Luke 4 :18&19 teach us about the anointing of the Holy Spirit? Why is this crucial for Christian living and service?

In Matthew 25, Jesus tells the story of a man who entrusted his servants with several sums of money. What was the man’s expectation of the servants? What things of value/investment has the Lord given us through the ministry of the Holy Spirit? What is God’s expectation of us concerning these things? In what ways have you “stewarded” the gifts from the Lord?

1 Corinthians 14 teaches us that we should be more than just open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. What consideration have you given to the possibility of the Spirit of God moving and working through you for His glory? Does the prospect of being used by God scare you? If so, what steps can you take to help overcome your fear & doubt?

Although we are taught to desire to be used by the Holy Spirit, what danger, if any, is there when we are being used by God? What things should we keep in mind when we are being used for His glory?

To test or try in scripture means to scrutinize intensely (as by fire). Is this contrary or compatible to be open and desirous of the supernatural moving of the Holy Spirit in and through our lives? Why is it important to be discerning? What are the consequences in being spiritually ignorant? How can we cultivate a discerning spirit?

2 Timothy 1:6&7 suggest that Timothy neglected his giftings. What were the consequences? Do you struggle with the exercise of the anointing of God upon your life? What guidance does scripture give us to overcome our doubts and fears?
