Prayer Point for the Week – Let us pray for a good turnout for Saturday’s prayer walk and for a renewed burden for our community.

Questions for Reflection

The believer in 1 Thessalonians 5 is described as being “children of the day and night.” What qualities mark the children of the day? How does the comparison of darkness and light relate to lifestyle? How does it relate to discernment? Do you find yourself living at times in dark places? What can you/should you do to stay out of dark places?

Living in the Spirit is often associated with freedom. In what different way does 1 Thessalonians 5 picture the person living in the Spirit? What does that tell us about our mindset towards the Holy Spirit’s moving in our lives and church? Is there a balance between freedom and responsibility in your life when it comes to spiritual things? What steps can you take to achieve a greater balance?

The imagery in 1 Thessalonians 5 of armor is similar to that of Ephesians 6. How does 1 Thessalonians 5 differ? Does this mean that the 2 passages are unrelated? Do the helmets/breastplates relate to each other? What correlation is there between righteousness, faith and love? Salvation and hope?

Verse 10 says “He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.” What does this tell us about God’s nature? Does this absolve us from our spiritual responsibilities? Does it give you comfort and assurance?
